Willpower (or ego) is a limited ressource that depletes over time.
Personally, I noticed a couple things depleting my willpower rather quickly:
- Doing something I don't want to do (eg. cold shower)
- Huge emotional spikes induced by annoying situations out of my control.
What helps me the most to refill this resource is a simple short walk, preferably in nature.
You should standardize your environment so that you have to take as few decisions as possible during the day. But it poses the problem of being aware of decisions you're taking in autopilot that are part of your daily life.
