MOC: [[Art of Writing]]
***
Great storytelling very often uses the same patterns. One of them is trinity. We can frequently see trinity in all kind of stories:
- Bella, Edward and Jacob in Twilight
- Harry, Hermione and Ron in Harry Potter
- Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli in the Lord of The Rings
- Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman in the DC Universe
In fact, the trinity is also used to explain other things:
- Persecutor, Victim, Rescuer in the Drama Triangle
- Speed, Cost, Quality Triangle in Product Development
Finally, most pieces of art have three major dominant colours, either in movies, painting or whatever.
These are just a few examples. Why does this pattern exist?
- It's the smallest system of interactions rich in feedback loop outside of a basic causality effect.
- When exceeding three elements, the system becomes harder to frame and you can miscalculate.
- Three elements or characters are the perfect number of things to keep track of, without being overhwhelmed nor losing interest.
